STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- In a preview of a potential NCAA Tournament matchup, the No. 2 University of Michigan field hockey team suffered its first defeat since Sept. 1, falling 4-3 in overtime to top-ranked Old Dominion on Saturday (Oct. 26) at Penn State's Bigler Field. The loss snapped a school-record 14-game winning streak for the Wolverines, while Old Dominion solidified its spot as the nation's best team after upsetting then-No. 1 Maryland last weekend.

After the Monarchs scored on three of their five first-half shots, Fronzoni pulled the Wolverines within two, scoring at 24:54. The second half was all Wolverines as junior defender Kristi Gannon (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual HS) netted a goal during a Michigan penalty corner at 51:16 before Fronzoni tied the game with 6:15 remaining.
The Monarchs ended the game 3:14 into overtime when Lotte Bant beat sophomore goalkeeper Molly Maloney (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest HS). Maloney stopped three shots in the contest, including two during ODU's first-half assault.
The Wolverines will remain on the road next weekend to close out the regular season when they travel to Durham, N.C., for non-conference matchups against No. 19 Virginia and No. 12 Duke. Michigan will face Virginia on Saturday, Nov. 2, before concluding the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 3, against Duke. Both matches are slated for a 1 p.m. start at Williams Field on the campus of Duke University.

Michigan's school-record winning streak of 14 games was snapped, leaving Lafayette with the nation's longest current string of wins at 14.
April Fronzoni posted her fifth multi-goal game of the year and scored her 16th goal of the season, leaving her one shy of her career high of 17, set as a freshman in 2000.
Fronzoni has netted four goals in her last three games, scoring at least one marker in each contest.
Kristi Gannon has a point in four of her last five games and has posted 6-3-15 during that time.
The loss to Old Dominion snapped a 28-game winning streak against non-conference opponents from conferences other than the ACC. The last time Michigan lost to a non-ACC school was Sept. 12, 1999, when it suffered a 3-0 setback to James Madison.
The last two meetings between Michigan and Old Dominion have been decided by one goal. Last season, the Wolverines posted a 1-0 win over ODU at Ocker Field.
