Michigan Loses Close Contest at Cal-Santa Barbara

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's water polo team dropped another one-goal decision to No. 8 Cal-Santa Barbara, falling 8-7 on Friday (Feb. 22) the Campus Pool. The Gauchos were 7-6 winners in U-M's season opener Jan. 26 at the Michigan Invitational.
Santa Barbara native Julie Nisbet (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) led the Maize and Blue on offense by finding the back of the UCSB goal twice to extend her scoring streak to six games. Nisbet's two goals helped U-M rally from a 7-4 deficit and even the score at 7-7 in the fourth period, but UCSB's Mary Blumberg scored the deciding marker with 1:41 left in the game.
The Wolverines will stay in Santa Barbara the remainder of the weekend to compete in the UCSB Invitational. U-M will face No. 3 Southern Cal at 10:20 a.m. PST Saturday and then face either No. 15 (tie) Hartwick or No. 6 Loyola Marymount at 3 p.m. or 4:10 p.m. PST.
