MVP Armstrong Heads Four All-Southern Division Picks

BOSTON Mass. -- Sophomore Betsey Armstrong (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) won her first Southern Division MVP award to head the list of four University of Michigan water polo players honored today (Friday, April 25) at the CWPA Eastern Championship Awards Banquet. Armstrong, Sheetal Narsai (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens HS) and Julie Nisbet (Santa Barbara, Calif./Santa Barbara HS) were all named to the CWPA All-Southern Division first team, while Casey Kerney (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park HS) was named to the All-Southern Division second team.

Narsai garnered her first Southern Division first team selection with her solid all-around play. She is second on the team with 31 goals, leads the team with a .544 shooting percentage, is tied for first on the team with 18 assists and leads the team with 46 steals. Narsai is one steal shy of the school season record. She is also Michigan's career leader with 43 career assists and holds the season assist record with 25 helpers last season.
Nisbet was named to the Southern Division first team for the second straight season. Michigan's career leader in goals with 108 is third on the team with 27 goals this year. Nisbet is second all-time at Michigan with seven career hat tricks and is first on the career ejections drawn list with 144.
Kerney was selected to the All-Southern Division second team, earning her first all-conference award. Kerney is first on the team this season with 32 goals and is tied for the team lead with 18 assists. She is also the Wolverines' career leader with eight hat tricks.
Michigan begins the defense of its 2002 Eastern Championship title Saturday (April 26) at 9 a.m. vs. Bucknell at Harvard's Blodgett Pool. The winner of the Eastern Championship will represent the CWPA at the 2003 NCAA Final Four.
