HILLSDALE, Mich. -- Sophomore Chelsea Homan's (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson HS) runner-up showing in the 3,000-meter run led a dozen University of Michigan women's track and field athletes at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays on Friday and Saturday (April 25-26) on the Ken Herrick Track.

Homan earned the runner-up honor when she completed the 3,000-meter journey around the track with a time of 10:10.97. Also in the race was freshman Jentry Soule (Grand Haven, Mich./Mullen HS), who placed ninth in 10:54.90 while making her varsity debut.

In the throwing pit sophomore Tara Kennedy (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven HS) turned in a pair of top-10 performances. On Friday, Kennedy finished fifth in the hammer throw with a personal-best toss of 154-2, surpassing her previous best mark (141-5) by nearly 14 feet. Kennedy then returned to the circle Saturday and placed seventh in the discus at 138-1.

The Wolverines continue their outdoor season as they attempt to divide and conquer, sending distance runners to the Cardinal Twilight (May 2) in Palo Alto, Calif., while the rest of the Maize and Blue squad heads to Columbus, Ohio, for the Jesse Owens Classic (May 2-3).
