LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The No. 13 University of Michigan men's soccer team got back on the winning track tonight (Friday, Oct. 1) with a 1-0 overtime victory at Kentucky. Junior Chris Glinski (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes HS) redirected a shot by junior Adam Bruh (Roslyn Heights, N.Y./Wheatley HS) at 92:04 to hand the Wolverines the win. Senior Joe Zawacki (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) earned the shutout in net for Michigan (7-1-1).
The Wildcats were the aggressors early, featuring a direct attack against the Wolverines. The Michigan defense held, however, limiting Kentucky to just three shots in the first half. Throughout the first period, Michigan was able to counterattack Kentucky but was unable to put a goal on the board.
Kentucky picked up the attack in the second half, but the Michigan defense continued to hold the Wildcats without a goal. Kentucky began to press for the first goal of the game as time wound down in the second half, but Zawacki made two late saves to preserve the 0-0 tie and send the game into overtime.
Two minutes into the overtime period, U-M earned a corner kick. Junior Ryan Sterba (Westlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius HS) serviced the ball into the UK box, but the Wildcats got the first touch and attempted to clear the ball. Senior Dawson Stellberger (Crested Butte, Colo./Crested Butte Academy) collected the clear at the top of the 18-yard box and passed the ball back to Bruh, who was standing 25 yards out. Bruh sent a shot at the UK net, finding Glinski four yards in front of the goal. Glinski then redirected the ball to the far post for his third goal of the season.
The Wolverines will continue their current road swing with a match at Louisville on Sunday (Oct. 3) at 3:30 p.m.

Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach Steve Burns
On the game ... "It was a very exciting game. Kentucky forces you to play your best and that's what we did. I think we saw some of our most intelligent soccer of the season so far today. It was a strong win and the boys earned it."
On if the team needed the victory ... "I think we did. Last weekend, across the board, I think we all had a letdown. We are not the type of team that can win games when we aren't at the top of our game. The message to the team after the game is that we put a lot of energy into the game and left our competitive souls on the field. We have to take every game like we did tonight if we want to make it to the NCAA Tournament. I think the players understand that."
On the play of Chris Glinski ... "He did it on both ends of the field tonight. Obviously he scored the game-winner, but he was also very strong for us from his central defense position. He did a very good job of playing tight and not allowing Kentucky with a lot of space. Adam Bruh also did a nice job of bringing a calm to the central midfield. With Kentucky's direct style, they tried to play a lot of balls in the air and win the second ball to move forward. Bruh was able to come up with a lot of those second balls to help us sustain our attack. Then the third star goes to Joe Zawacki. He played nearly a flawless game for us and came up with a number of timely saves that kept us in the game."
On facing Louisville ... "Louisville plays a very different game than Kentucky, with more possession and what I would call an indirect attack. They have a lot of strong and skillful players that attack on the flanks and can pull a defense out of its shape. They can create a lot of pressure in one-on-one situations and they find space inside. We need to recognize that, stay compact as a defense and always make sure we have defensive support."
