With all five runners among the top 30 placers, Michigan totaled 92 points to capture the team title in the 19-team university men's division at the Great American Cross Country Festival -- its best performance in three appearances at the meet -- nipping runner-up North Carolina State by five points.
The weekly distinction is the first for the Wolverines this year and the second for Brannen during his four seasons at Michigan. He shared the honor with Indiana's Sean Jefferson on Oct. 8, 2002, after pacing the Maize and Blue at the Notre Dame Invitational with a seventh-place performance.
The Wolverines will return to competition on Friday (Oct. 8) at the Michigan Intercollegiates at the Rolling Hills Golf Course in Hudsonville, Mich. Hosted by Grand Valley State, the men's 8,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
