Michigan Head Coach Cheryl Burnett
On freshman Katie Dierdorf's first career start ... "Having a presence in the low post really makes a huge difference. That's the difference Katie Dierdorf gives us. She really posts up well when we reverse the basketball. We can really find her in the post and it gives us a lot more flexibility. Things take time, it takes time for a lot of our players, but we are progressing nicely."
On tonight's lineup change ... "We are a program where you will see changes in the lineup as long as I am here as the coach for different reasons and different strategies and sometimes just because change is good. Just change for the sake of change, and I really thought our players reacted well. We reemphasized a couple things that the team concept is far superior to what happens to 'I' and we just needed to make sure we reemphasized that and our players reacted beautifully."
On the IUPUI run in the second half ... "I really thought we did a good job in trying to re-gather and that took us about three possessions and a timeout to re-remind us the things we needed to do. We needed to do a lot more time management in a couple of situations and had some bad possessions with the lead being cut. I want to say that IUPUI -- and I told this to their coach today -- is probably the best 1-6 team that we were ever going to play. They have really been playing people well, go up to Marquette and Marquette at the time was undefeated, they played them very close and they have been building confidence. They finally won an overtime game and they do different presses and I thought we did a much better job against their pressure."
On improvements in tonight's performance ... "We really started looking at some of the right places, which is the thing I am appreciating. We still had some ugly possessions, but we are trying to do the right things and then we had some really good possessions, so it was a good feel to gain some confidence."
