U-M Claims Second Straight Relay Crown at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Univesity of Michigan women's track and field team posted a relay victory for the second consecutive day at the Drake Relays, as the Wolverines won the distance medley relay Friday afternoon in Drake Stadium (April 23).
Michigan's foursome of Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac HS), Vera Simms (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani HS), Anna Jones (Omaha, Neb./Marian HS) and Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell HS) posted a time of 11:10.28 to win the distance medley relay by less than one second. The U-M quartet bettered second place Missouri by 0.76 seconds as the Tigers DMR clocked in at 11:11.04.
It marks the second relay victory of the weekend for Erdman and Gallo, as they ran the second and fourth legs of U-M's meet record setting 4x1,600-meter relay (19:15.56) Thursday evening (April 22).
In the pole vault, Elizabeth Boyle (Northbrook, Ill./New Trier HS) finished tied for seventh (12-3 1/2), while Kelly Catino (Traverse City, Mich./Central HS) and Lynn Gasparella (New Hudson, Mich./South Lyon HS) finished 13th (12-3 1/2) and 16th (11-7 3/4), respectively.
On the track, Simms posted a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles when she clocked in with an NCAA regional qualifying time of 59.53. Keri Kirk (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) was 19th in the event with a time of 1:01.93.
Those who qualified for event finals on Saturday, were Sierra Hauser-Price (Van Nuys, Calif./Notre Dame HS), Robin Landfair (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) and the 4x400-meter relay squad of Carly Knazze (Southfield, Mich./Southfield HS), Shavonne Maclin (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont HS), Mora Arnold (Gregory, Mich./Chelsea HS) and Hauser-Price.
The Wolverines return to the track to complete action at the Drake Relays Saturday with the first event, the prelims of the 4x100-meter shuttle hurdle relay.
