Grosse Pointe South's Jenzen Signs With Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney announced that pitcher/outfielder Ben Jenzen (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent with U-M. Jenzen is the first player to sign during the spring signing period and gives Maloney six players signed to play for the Wolverines next season.
"I'm very excited about signing Ben as he fits nicely into the class of freshmen we have signed and he will also complement our returning group of players for the 2005 season," said Maloney. "Ben is very athletic with a good arm and he competes. He has a high upside as a pitcher and will also have an opportunity to play in the outfield."
Jenzen is a three-sport athlete and played in the baseball state tournament as a junior, reaching the semifinals. Earlier this season he had nine-strikeout games in wins over Utica Ford and Grosse Pointe North.
The five players signed in the early signing period last fall include RHP Chris Fetter (Carmel, Ind./Carmel HS), OF/C Doug Pickens (West Bloomfield, Mich./Brother Rice), RHP Michael Powers (St. Clair Shores, Mich./South Lake HS), 1B/3B Derek Van Buskirk (St. Clair, Mich./St. Clair) and RHP David Nykerk (Holland, Mich., West Ottawa HS).
