Current Wolverines Tie Former Letterwinners in Alumni Match

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis program held its Alumni Weekend tennis match Saturday morning (Oct. 8) at the Varsity Tennis Center, and the current Wolverines played the former letterwinners to a 6-6 tie. The alumni dominated doubles play by winning three of four matches, but the 2005-06 U-M players claimed victory in five of the eight singles matches to force a draw.
Sophomore Matko Maravic (Zagreb, Croatia/V. Gimnazija) and junior Steve Peretz (Brooklyn, N.Y./The Dwight School) led the current Wolverines in the exhibition, teaming together for the team's lone doubles win before earning victories in their respective singles matches.
The highlight of the morning was Maravic's 6-4 triumph over formerIntercollegiate Tennis AssociationAll-American and 1996 Wimbledon singles finalist MaliVai Washington. Freshman Andrew Mazlin (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS) defeated Anthony Jackson, 6-3, in the finalmatch left on the courtsto ensure the current Michigan team a tie.
