ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Fifth-year senior Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) capped a three-title performance at the Big Ten Women's Indoor Championships by winning the mile and 5,000-meter run in day two (Sunday, Feb. 27) to help Michigan to its third Big Ten indoor title in four years, at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
Senior Sierra Hauser-Price (Van Nuys, Calif./Notre Dame) added a 200-meter dash title to Michigan's total, while the Wolverines placed runner-up in the 60-meter dash, the 600- and 800-meter runs and the high jump to earn 130 points, ahead of second-place Illinois (117.5 points) and third-place Minnesota (79).
Nineteen of Michigan's 32 competitors scored in the Championships, led by three event wins by Gallo (30 points) and double-digit performances by Hauser-Price (18.5), freshman Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) (11), senior/junior Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele) (10.5) and senior/junior Jennifer Williams (Burton, Mich./Atherton) (10). Michigan's point total was the highest since 1998 when the Wolverines scored 133 points in the indoor championships.

Gallo won the mile run, while Gaydos (left) placed third.
Gallo began her historic day in the mile, finishing first in a time of 4:42.42, while sophomore Jackie Gaydos (Allen Park, Mich./Allen Park) came from back of the pack to take third, clocking in at 4:50.22 for a personal best. Gallo sat second behind Illinois' Cassie Hunt while Gaydos battled to free herself from the back of the pack through the first 800 meters. At the 1,000-meter mark, Gallo moved up to second and Gaydos made her move on the field, taking possession of fourth place with three laps to go. Gallo and Hunt began to pull away from the field, while Gaydos closed in on third-place Tabitha Volling of Illinois. With a little over one lap remaining, Gaydos passed Volling and Gallo maintained her edge on Hunt as the Wolverines crossed first and third for 16 points.
One hour later Gallo competed in her first 5,000-meter run of the season, winning her third title of the championship in a personal-best time of 16:28.51. Gallo paced herself until the 4,600-meter mark when she picked up the tempo, out-kicking a pair of Illini runners and clocking in at 16:28.51. Senior/junior Ana Gjesdal (LaCrescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley) finished strong to claim seventh with a personal-best time of 16:55.58, giving Michigan 12 points in the event.
In the 200-meter dash, Hauser-Price set a school and facility record with a title-clinching time of 24.00 seconds. Running on the outside in lane six, Hauser-Price tore down the homestretch, holding off Penn State's Shanna Cox, who crossed 0.04 seconds later in 24.04. Earlier in the day, Hauser-Price battled Ohio State's Jenna Harris in the 60-meter dash, taking second place and breaking her own school record with a time of 7.42.
In the 800-meter run, Feldkamp ran in second for the entire race, pushing Illinois' Carlene Robinson throughout but taking second in 2:09.31 to score in her fourth straight indoor 800-meter event. Fifth-year senior Anna Jones (Omaha, Neb./Marian) moved up with a quick pace in the final 150 meters to claim fourth, clocking in at 2:12.40 for a new season best. Junior/sophomore Monica Dunn (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) added a critical point to Michigan's team total with an eighth-place finish, crossing in 2:14.52 for a new personal record.
Michigan had three athletes score in the high jump, led by senior/junior Stephanie Linz's (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) second-place showing of 5-9 1/4, followed by senior/junior Jennifer Williams' (Burton, Mich./Atherton) fourth-place clearance of 5-9 1/4 and junior Porsha Ellis' (Farmington Hills, Mich./Southfield Christian) season-best jump of 5-6, tying her for sixth.
In the 600-meter dash, Edwards ran in second for nearly her entire heat, turning on the jets in the final turn and crossing in 1:31.76 for a new personal best. Edwards' win in heat two was bettered by Minnesota's Mollie Hupp, who crossed 0.36 seconds faster in 1:31.57 for the title.
In the 400-meter dash, junior Shavonne Maclin (University Heights, Ohio/Beaumont School) took sixth in 57:01, scoring in back-to-back Big Ten Indoor Championships.
In the weight throw, senior Ashley Eckel (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) earned a point for the Wolverines with a personal-best throw of 58-8, while Penn State's Jennifer Leatherman shattered the Big Ten Indoor Championships and U-M Indoor Track Building records with a throw of 69-11 1/2 to win the event.
Michigan competes in its final regular-season indoor meet of the season at the Alex Wilson Invitational next Friday and Saturday (March 4-5) before its NCAA qualifiers head to Fayetteville, Ark., for the NCAA Indoor Championships (March 11-12).
