Rain Wreaks Havoc With Final Days of Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Strong storms forced cancellation of the majority of the Florida Relays events Friday (March 25) and all but one event Saturday (March 26) at Percy Beard Track. A number of Friday's events were rescheduled for Saturday, but weather postponed Saturday morning's events until 1 p.m. and another storm front moved through the Gainesville area, forcing the cancellation.
On Friday, Michigan's 4x1,500-meter relay team set a track record, clocking in at 17:58.06 to win the event. Fifth-year senior Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson), senior/junior Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele), freshman Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) and fifth-year senior Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) paced U-M's relay team to victory.
Junior Kelly Catino (Traverse City, Mich./Traverse City Central) shrugged off the elements on Friday to clear 11-5 3/4 in the pole vault, good for a three-way tie for 17th place. The only event contested on Saturday was the hammer throw, which was able to start before lightining was spotted in the area.
Next up for the Wolverines is the Duke Blue Devil Invitational, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 8-9, in Durham, N.C.
