DES MOINES, Iowa -- The University of Michigan women's track team defended its first of three relay crowns and remained perfect at the Drake Relays Thursday (April 28), winning the 4x1,600-meter relay in 19:19.07 -- just 3.51 seconds shy of the Wolverines' own Drake Relays record set in 2004 - and capturing the 10,000-meter run.
Fifth-year senior Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) and senior/junior Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele) returned to Drake to defend U-M's record-setting 1,600-meter relay title, running the anchor and lead-off positions respectively. Fifth-year senior Andrea Parker (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) handled the second leg of the race, while freshman Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) ran third. The Wolverines crossed the finish over 20 seconds faster than second-place Illinois, outpacing the field by a wide margin.
Senior/junior Ana Gjesdal (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley) continued Michigan's winning ways with a first-place, provisional-qualifying, personal-best performance in the 10,000-meter run, clocking in at 34:50.42. Her run was the fastest winning time at the Drake Relays since 2001.
Michigan competes in day two of the Drake Relays on Friday (April 29).
