Michigan Rounds Out 2005 Recruiting Class with Perez

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's soccer head coach Steve Burns announced the addition of midfielder Santos Perez (Troy, Mich./Athens HS) to the Wolverines' 2005 recruiting class.
Perez joins a group of six previous signees -- forward Steven Bonnell (St. Claire Shores, Mich./Detroit Country Day HS), defender Michael Holody (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS), midfielder Alex Morisset (Shelby Township, Mich./DeLasalle HS), goalkeeper Patrick Sperry (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central HS), Michigan's Mr. Soccer forward Jake Stacy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) and defender/midfielder Chase Tennant (Rochester, Mich./Rochester HS) -- that form one of the top 10 recruiting classes in the nation according to StudentSportsSoccer.com.
"One of the beautiful things about soccer is that it has a lack of formula where small men can regularly destroy big men," said Burns. "Santos falls into the former category. He has the intelligence, technical ability, and athleticism to play anywhere on the field. He's going to have a major impact on our program that will show itself in all of the statistical columns."
Perez, a 2004 MHSAA Dream Team member and first-team all-state selection for head coach Tim Storch at Troy Athens High School, garnered Metro Conference Player of the Year honors along with being named the Tribune Player of the Year for 2004. As an adidas Youth Soccer All-American and member of both the Michigan and Regional ODP teams for the past two years, Perez joined fellow Holody, Morisset, Stacy and Tennant at adidas' 2004 ESP camp, an invitation-only camp for the nation's top 150 youth players.
Perez plays his club soccer for head coach Jason Davis and the 2005 Under-18 state champion Michigan Metrostars, teaming up with fellow Michigan recruits Morisset, Stacy and Tennant.
