Gallo Earns First Team Academic All-District IV Honors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's track and field fifth-year senior captain Lindsey Gallo (Freehold, N.J./Howell) earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV honors, announced Friday (June 3) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Gallo is now eligible for the ESPN The Magazine All-America team, which will be announced on Thursday, June 23.
Members of CoSIDA select the honorees for the Academic All-America teams which are comprised of student-athletes with at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and who are starters or main reserves in their respective sports.
Gallo was the 2004 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year for women's track and field and cross country after posting a 4.0 cumulative grade point average in the business school and earning All-America honors in the mile, 1,500-meter run and distance medley relay. She is enrolled in the Masters of Accounting program and has maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average throughout her academic career, earning U-M Athletic Academic Achievement honors on five occasions and receiving Academic All-Big Ten honors four times.
Gallo anchored the Wolverines' distance medley relay team to a first-place finish at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships. She also competed in the indoor mile, earning All-America honors with a third-place showing. She won three individual events -- the mile and 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs -- at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and earned the Big Ten Indoor Athlete of the Year, Athlete of the Championship and USTCA Regional Athlete of the Year award. Gallo also received the Big Ten Medal of Honor and the Bob Ufer Quarterback Club Senior Athlete Achievement Award for her efforts.
Gallo won her second Big Ten 1,500-meter run title at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in May and captured her second straight 1,500-meter run crown at the NCAA Mideast Regional, qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She enters the NCAA Championships with the eighth-fastest 1,500-meter run time in the nation, clocking in at 4:18.40 at the NCAA Mideast Regional.
