ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore Carrie Frost (Saline, Mich./Saline) of the University of Michigan women's water polo competed at the 2006 Speedo Top 40 this past weekend (Nov. 3-5), a three-day event in Los Alamitos, Calif.
The fifth-annual event showcases the top 40 women's water polo players from the United States Olympic, junior and senior national teams, as well as student-athletes from collegiate and high school programs. Frost is the third Michigan player to earn the distinguished invitation, joining current senior captain Shana Welch (Larksville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), who participated in the event in 2004 and 2005, as well as former All-American goalkeeper and current U.S. senior national team member Betsey Armstrong -- an Ann Arbor native.
During competition, the 40 invitees are divided into four teams and compete in a round-robin tournament, with the top two teams facing off in a championship final. Frost, a member of Kosmic Khaos, helped her team to a 2-1 round-robin record and a spot in the championship final, where her squad eventually claimed runner-up. The sophomore driver scored a hat trick in game three, aiding Kosmic Khaos to the finals.
Earlier this summer, Frost earned a spot on the U.S Junior National team, which features the country's best 20-and-under players. The junior national squad competed at the Pythia Cup (July 18-24) in Athens, Greece, in mid-January, earning a second-place finish.
As a freshman, she tallied 27 goals, 17 assists and 28 steals. Frost was one of four freshmen to score 20 or more goals and post 40 or more points, helping U-M to the Eastern Championship finals.
Michigan opens its season at the end of January, hosting its annual Michigan Kick-Off Tournament at Canham Natatorium.
