Wolverines Win 4x1,500-meter Event at Sea Ray Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team earned an NCAA regional qualifying standard as well as claimed the 4x1,500-meter relay Friday (April 14) on the first day of non-heptathlon events at the Sea Ray Relays on Tom Black Track.

Freshmen Tiffany Ofili (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) and Katie LaValley (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central) led the way for the Wolverines with NCAA regional qualifying times in hurdle events. Ofili set the standard with a personal-best time of 13.72 as she took fifth place in the 100m hurdles, while LaValley placed eighth in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:00.38.

The Wolverines took first place in the 4x1,500m relay with a time of 18:17.27. The Maize and Blue team consisted of freshman Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc), sophomore Alyson Kohlmeier (Sarnia, Ontario/St. Patrick's), senior/junior Katie Erdman (Cadillac, Mich./Cadillac) and sophomore Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey).

In the 3,000m, sophomore/freshman Lisa Canty (Highland, Mich./Milford) took sixth place with a time of 10:28.95, while fifth-year senior Theresa Feldkamp (Lorain, Ohio/Amherst Steele) placed 15th in the 800m with a time of 2:13.73.

In the field events Michigan was represented by freshman Casey Taylor (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) as she took 15th place in the triple jump with a jump of 39-9 1/4. Junior Bridgette Maynard (Clawson, Mich./Bishop Foley) competed unattached in the hammer throw and discus, taking eighth (164-3) and 10th (150-1), respectively.

Michigan will compete in the final day of the Sea Ray Relays on Saturday (April 15) beginning with the shuttle hurdle relay at 1 p.m.
