BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team got its fall season underway in competition against Michigan State and Eastern Michigan on Saturday (Sept. 16) in a series of controlled pieces on Belleville Lake. U-M's crews captured four of the five races and nearly won the fifth.
U-M boated three eights while the Spartans and Eagles each had two eights. There were five pieces overall, with each piece lasting four minutes. The stroke limit was set at 26 strokes per minute.
"It was really good to race against good competition early in the season," head coach Mark Rothstein said. "I think our crews responded well. I was pleased with our rowing today."
Michigan's next event is in two weeks when the Wolverines face the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio. The start time for the regatta has yet to be determined.
