Warhurst Voted Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's cross country head coach Ron Warhurst was named Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year today (Friday, Nov. 16), earning the honor for the third time in his career. He also was the Regional Coach of the Year in 1997 and '98.
The Wolverines ran their best race of the season in tying Wisconsin (68 points) for first place at the Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 10 in Bloomington, Ind. Michigan earned its second regional championship and secured its first NCAA Championships team appearance since 2004. Two weeks earlier, Michigan finished fifth at the Big Ten Conference meet, 71 points behind Wisconsin.
Six Wolverines earned All-Great Lakes Regional honors by finishing in the top 25, led by junior Lex Williams (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter HS), who placed seventh overall with a time of 30:53.27. Freshman Craig Forys (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck HS), 11th; junior/sophomore Brandon Fellows (Mercer Island, Wash./Mercer Island HS), 13th; junior/sophomore Sean McNamara (Elmhurst, Ill./York HS), 18th; senior/junior Victor Gras (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS), 19th; and junior John Black (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Brother Rice HS), 20th, also earned All-Regional recognition.
The Maize and Blue will conclude its season on Monday (Nov. 19), at the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The 10,000-meter men's race will begin at 12:05 p.m. at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. The meet will be televised and webcast live on CSTV.
