ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's soccer head coach Steve Burns announced Tuesday (April 17) that junior-to-be defender Michael Holody (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS), junior-to-be midfielder Alex Morisset (Shelby Township, Mich./De La Salle HS) and senior-to-be midfielder Michael Parke (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) have been named captains for the 2007 season. Holody, Morisset and Parke were elected by their teammates and appointed by the coaching staff.
"With responsibility comes sacrifice," stated Burns. "I know that these guys take their new roles very seriously. I like their mixture of leadership traits and I know they will rise to the occasion and lead our team to a successful season."
In 2006, Holody started in 20 games, earning seven points off three goals and one assist. Holody was ranked third amongst the Wolverines in goals scored (3) and points (7). The Clarkston, Mich., native was named to the 2006 All-Big Ten tournament team as well as earning Academic All-Big Ten honors.
Morisset also started in 20 matches, scoring one marker off six shots on goal. Morisset tied for second on the team in game-winning goals (1), netting his first-career goal at the 95:18 mark to defeat Kentucky on Sept. 18, 2006. The midfielder was named to the 2006 Michigan Invitational all-tournament team after helping the Wolverines capture their second-ever Michigan Invitational title.
Parke will bring his experience to the group of captains after making an appearance in 36 career matches -- the most amongst the threesome. The senior-to-be scored his first-career goal in 2006 -- a game-winner -- against Northern Illinois on Sept. 1. Parke was named to the 2006 CoSida Academic All-District IV team as well as earning Academic All-Big Ten honors.
The Wolverines look forward to starting their 2007 season after posting a 7-10-4 record (1-2-3 Big Ten) and advancing to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament in 2006.
