ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's soccer head coach Steve Burns announced Tuesday (April 17) that junior-to-be defender Michael Holody (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston HS), junior-to-be midfielder Alex Morisset (Shelby Township, Mich./De La Salle HS) and senior-to-be midfielder Michael Parke (Portage, Mich./Portage Central HS) have been named captains for the 2007 season. Holody, Morisset and Parke earned their captaincy by an election of their teammates and the appointment of the coaching staff.
"With responsibility comes sacrifice," stated Burns. "I know that these guys take their new roles very seriously. I like their mixture of leadership traits and I know they will rise to the occasion and lead our team to a successful season."
In 2006, Holody started and played in 20 games, earning three goals, one assist, tallying seven points. Holody was ranked third amongst the Wolverines in goals scored (3) and points (7). The Clarkston, Mich., native was named to the 2006 All-Big Ten tournament team along with being named to the 2006 Academic All-Big Ten Team.
Morisset also started and played in 20 matches, scoring one marker off six shots on goal. Morisset was in a tie for second in game-winning goals (1) after netting his first-career goal at the 95:18 mark to defeat Kentucky (Sept. 18). The junior-to-be midfielder was named to the 2006 Michigan Invitational all-tournament team, after assisting the Wolverines to capture their second Michigan Invitational title.
Parke will bring his experience to the group of captains after making an appearance in 36 matches, the most amongst the threesome. The senior-to-be scored his first-career goal in 2006, a game-winner, against Northern Illinois (Sept. 1). Parke was named to the 2006 CoSida Academic All-District IV team as well as the 2006 Academic All-Big Ten team.
The Wolverines are looking forward to starting their 2007 season, after amassing a 2006 record of 7-10-4.
