Hyrne Named CWPA Western Division Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Sophomore Julie Hyrne (Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) of the No. 19-ranked University of Michigan women's water polo team has been named the CWPA Western Division Player of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday (April 24).

Hyrne netted both overtime markers for Michigan in a thrilling 8-6 overtime win against Indiana University Sunday (April 22), leading the Wolverines to their sixth straight division championship. Hyrne tallied a team-high nine goals and added three assists in three games to complete the weekend tied with fellow sophomore Carrie Frost (Saline, Mich./Saline) for the weekend lead in points.
Hyrne opened the Western Division Championship on Saturday (April 21) with two points (1 g, 1 a) in limited time in a 19-2 win over Washington & Jefferson. She also added a steal. Later in the evening, Hyrne exploded for eight points on six goals and two helpers in a 21-5 in over Slippery Rock. She also had a steal and drew a team-high three ejections in the contest.
In Sunday's championship, Hyrne scored both overtime goals in the second overtime to complete Michigan's two-goal comeback win over Indiana, handing the Wolverines another division crown. She also contributed a pair of steals and a team-best three drawn ejections.
As a result of her nine-goal, three-assist weekend, Hyrne is now tied for the team lead in scores with 79 on the season. She currently ranks second on the squad in points with 111 points (79 g, 32 a) and boasts the second-highest goal and point totals for a season in program history.
This is Hyrne's second CWPA weekly honor of the season; she also earned the award on February 26.
