Michigan Head Coach Matt Anderson
On the day ... ""This morning we created a lot of chances and could not finish. We have the youngest team here and they were nervous. We have two seniors and one junior and were playing a team with six seniors that had never beat Michigan. But we were able to do a great job on the final play to pull out the win at the end. Against Princeton, our opponent was very fortunate tonight and we were very unfortunate. In the third quarter, we had four breakaways and in the last three minutes of the game we missed a breakaway and a penalty shot. We did everything tonight -- on the counterattack and offensively -- except put the ball in the back of the net. It was Saturday night playing a Princeton team that has eight seniors that had never beat Michigan. It was a large, vocal crowd at their home pool, and we battled and battled. We were just unlucky. I give Princeton credit. They were able to walk out of here with a victory. Unfortunately, we did some things that lost us the game, but that happens in water polo. I cannot fault the girls effort and can't fault the chances we had. Sometimes the ball goes into the net and sometimes it does not. That's the bottom line. Kudos to Princeton for weathering a very big storm and coming out of here with a victory. I hope they play well when they play a good Hartwick team in the championship game."
