First Varsity Four Collects Win Over OSU, Tennessee

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women's rowing team competed in frigid conditions against No. 3 Ohio State and No. 12 Tennessee on Saturday (April 7) on the Scioto River. U-M's first varsity four won its race, while the first varsity eight finished a close second to the Buckeyes and the second varsity four placed third in its event.

Ohio State captured the first varsity eight race in a time of 6:41.19. The Wolverine shell finished roughly half a length behind in 6:43.54. Tennessee was third in 6:47.48.

The Lady Volunteers won the second varsity eight race in 6:41.26. One boat length behind the winner was Ohio State (6:45.44) and another length back was Michigan in 6:49.48.

The Maize and Blue first varsity four earned its win in a time of 7:50.88. There was open water between U-M and the runner up as UT finished in 7:55.51. OSU was third in 8:05.60.

Tennessee won the second varsity four race with ease in 7:28.07. Michigan (7:40.77) won the sprint for second place over OSU (7:42.79).

Ohio State won the first novice eight race in 7:11.25. U-M and Tennessee took second and third, respectively. The Wolverines' second novice eight defeated Ohio State 7:11.70 to 7:37.87.

Michigan will conclude its regular season next weekend when it travels to East Lansing, Mich, to face Indiana and Ohio State.
