ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan water polo head coach Matt Anderson announced recently that assistant coach Jennifer Durley is leaving the program after four seasons to take the head coaching position at the University of California-Santa Barbara.
"I am super excited for Jenn," Anderson said. "Not only because she gets to coach a good Division I program, but she gets to head home. She is definitely ready and will do a good job. It shows a lot about Michigan and the fact that we hopefully prepared her well to do a good job."
Durley has played a pivotal role in the continued success of U-M program since her arrival in 2004. While working primarily with centers and the defense as well as recruiting and conditioning, Durley was part of four CWPA Western Division titles.
In addition to her coaching resume, Durley graduated from the NCAA Women's Coaches Academy in 2005 and the NCAA Women's Coaches Academy Dimension II in 2006. Prior to Michigan, she was an assistant coach for two seasons at the University of Southern California.
A native of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Durley will be heading back to her home state where she played her high school and college water polo. She played for the University of Southern California (1998-2001), winning a national championship in 1999. She joined the USA National Women's Team in 2001 and played for two years.
UCSB went 16-22 overall in 2007 and 2-10 in its conference.
