ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan water polo head coach Matt Anderson announced the addition of Ryley Plunkett (Modesto, Calif./Johansen) to the 2008 water polo freshman class on Wednesday (Sept. 12).
"Ryley was one of those players that I pursued last fall. She liked Michigan very much, but wanted to take some more time to make sure it was going to be the right fit for her," Anderson said. "I was extremely happy when the spring came around and she made the decision that she wanted to come to Michigan. She had a very solid high school career and I think she will turn out to be a very solid college player. We are very excited to have her."
Plunkett, a four year starter on the varsity squad, led her team at Johansen High School to three consecutive semifinal appearances in the CIF section championship, earning CIF Sac-Joaquin section first team honors in each of her final three years. She was named Central Valley Conference Most Valuable Player and Modesto Metro Conference MVP in her sophomore and senior seasons, respectively.
A three-time NISCA All-American, Plunkett was a member of the USWP Central Cal Zone Youth Team for four years.
