LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team dropped its second straight game with a 1-0 loss to Oregon State Friday (Sept. 14) on Sullivan Field. Despite a 12-10 shot advantage for the Wolverines, the Beavers scored the go-ahead goal in the 74th minute to claim the victory.
Michigan outshot Oregon State in the first half, 8-5, including a barrage in the fleeting seconds of the stanza. Danelle Underwood (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern), Amy Klippert (Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) and Stephanie Crawford (Novi, Mich./Novi) each took a crack at the net during the flurry. Underwood put an attempt just outside the post to start U-M's onslaught of shots. Klippert and Crawford quickly followed with back-to-back shots, but both were turned away by OSU goalkeeper Ashley Wood.
Junior goalkeeper Madison Gates (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) was strong again in net for the Wolverines, making four saves off ten shots to keep the game scoreless as it headed into the final 20 minutes of play. OSU's Whitney Goodell scored the game's lone goal at 73:55 to give the Beavers a 1-0 advantage. Goodell ripped a left-footed shot from 25 yards out past Gates into the upper-ninety of the net.
Michigan will play its second and final match of the LMU/Four Points Sheraton Culver City Classic Sunday (Sept. 14). The Wolverines take on host Loyola Marymount at 1 p.m. PDT on Sullivan Field.

On the game... "It was frustrating. We were playing well and then they get one goal off of one shot and we lose the game, its disappointing. We had more chances to run some plays. We had four corner kicks and 16 set pieces and we got nothing off of it. Our execution was off."
On the scoreless first half... "The first half was a little bit choppy, a lot of balls in the air. In the second half we put the ball back on the ground and really had the run of the play. But the other team battled hard. They had a couple good players that made a difference for them and they got that one goal."
