BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan rowing team opened its fall season Sunday morning (Sept. 16) against Michigan State and Eastern Michigan on Belleville Lake. The crews split into two flights and each competed in five races.
Each of the five pieces lasted four and a half minutes with a maximum stroke rating of 26 strokes per minute, which shortened the span of each race to roughly 1,200 meters rather than the customary 2,000-meter race.
U-M, MSU and EMU each raced two boats in the first flight. The Wolverines and Spartans competed evenly in all five races, as first place was traded back and forth in each finish. The Eagle crews were consistently in fifth and sixth.
The second flight included a Spartan eight and a Michigan four and eight. MSU's eight won all five pieces by open water.
Michigan's next event is Sunday, Oct. 7, when Ohio State travels to Belleville Lake.
