ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Peri Marosevic (Rockford, Ill./Edison Academy) netted a hat trick as the No. 24-ranked University of Michigan men's soccer team inaugurated the new U-M Soccer Complex with a 5-1 victory over Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 12). Senior Jake Stacy (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Central) added a pair of assists and redshirt freshman Chris Blais (Seattle, Wash./Kennedy Memorial) started in goal for the Wolverines and made three saves for the win.

Peri Marosevic
Marosevic opened the scoring 26:30 into the contest with his seventh goal of the season. Junior Mauro Fuzetti (Houston, Texas/Stratford) cut through the middle of the Bronco defense and made a pass to Marosevic who turned and fired a shot into the right side of the goal.
Stacy then set up Marosevic for the second goal of the match at 32:17. Stacy led Marosevic with a pass to the top of the box where Marosevic collected the ball, rounded the goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the net.
Western Michigan responded with a goal from Saeed Sulemana Baba just 34 seconds later to cut the score to 2-1.
The Maize and Blue then regained its two-goal advantage at the 36:35 mark of the first half on Marosevic's third goal of the match. Stacy and Marosevic worked a give-and-go on the right side of the field and Marosevic finished with a shot under the Western Michigan goalkeeper from 12 yards out.
The Wolverines added a fourth goal just 1:27 into the second half as senior Steve Bonnell (St. Clair Shores, Mich./Detroit Country Day) registered his second goal of the season. Bonnell made a run down the left side of the Bronco defense and ripped a shot that found the goal inside the far post.
Michigan finished the scoring at the 70:54 mark when junior/sophomore Cam Cameron (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) found the back of the net for the second time this season. Senior/junior Tom McCurdy (Vicksburg, Mich./Portage Central) set up Cameron who turned and fired from 18 yards.
Cameron and McCurdy were dangerous throughout the second 45 minutes, accounting for three hit goalposts in addition to Cameron's goal.
The Wolverines will return to action next Saturday (Oct. 18) when they host Michigan State at the U-M Soccer Complex. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on the Big Ten Network.

QUOTES
Michigan Head Coach Steve Burns
On the match ... "I thought that everybody played with the kind of energy and work ethic we have been asking for from them and that have been successful for us. We're a team that is not built around one player and when we play with one or two touches and we work hard defensively we can be quite good."
On the play of Peri Marosevic ... "Peri showed a real hunger today and that's what it is going to take for him to help us do well in the Big Ten and in the NCAAs. It was great to see him come out and put in a workman-like effort and be rewarded with three good goals."
On playing at the U-M Soccer Complex ... "It's great to win our first game here at our new digs, and we look forward to many more."
