TULSA, Okla. -- Senior Andrew Mazlin(Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS), junior Mike Sroczynski(Chatham, N.J./Laurel Springs School) and sophomore Jason Jung(Torrance Calif./West Torrance HS) all competed in qualifying-singles action on Monday (Oct. 6) at the D'Novo ITA All-American Championships. Jung, participatating in his second consecutive All-American Championships, won his first-round match, while Mazlin and Sroczynski, both making their first career appearances at the All-American tournament, each fell in two sets.
Jung picked up Michigan's lone win of the afternoon in a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win over qualifier Eliot Potvin from Georgia Tech. Jung opened the match strong with a 6-3 win in the first set before Potvin rallied to tie the match at one set each. Jung picked up his first win at the national tournament with a convincing 6-4 win in the third and decisive set.
Both Sroczynski and Mazlin fell in their opening-round matches. Sroczynski dropped a 6-4, 6-2 match to Misssissippi's Halle Norberg, while Mazlin -- ranked No. 95 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason rankings -- fell 6-3, 6-2 to Texas A&M's Wil Spencer.
Jung, who advances to the second round of qualifying for the first time in his career, will take on Jay Goldman from Arizona in the second round of qualifying on Tuesday (Oct. 7). Goldman advanced with a 6-4, 6-4 win over qualifier Eric Quigley from Kentucky.
Jung and Sroczynski -- ranked No. 18 in the ITA preseason rankings -- will open competition in the doubles main draw on Thursday (Oct. 9). Their opponents will be announced on Wednesday (Oct. 8).
