KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Senior Mike DePietro (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Lahser HS) and sophomore David Streeter (Beverley Hills, Mich./Birmingham Groves HS) of the University of Michigan men's tennis team both won first-round matches before falling in the second round to open singles action at the WMU Vredevelt Invitational today (Saturday, Nov. 1) at West Hills Athletic Club.
In brown-flight action, DePietro opened the day with a 7-5, 2-6, 1-0(4) win over Jose Moncada from DePaul University. The win set up a match with Western Michigan's Kevin Hayward, who took a straight-sets 6-4, 6-2 win over DePietro to conclude the day.
Streeter, playing in the gold flight, opened with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Western Michigan's Landon Neuman but dropped his second match of the day to WMU's Michael Calderone, 6-0, 6-4.
In the final day of singles action on Sunday (Nov. 2), DePietro will take on Western Michigan's Nick Camilleri, while Streeter will play Jonathan Shroeder from Indiana.
