
Fetter Named to Preseason All-America Second Team

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Senior pitcher Chris Fetter(Carmel, Ind./Carmel) of the University of Michigan baseball team has been namedto the Preseason All-America second teamby the National College Baseball Writers Association. Fetter, who was recently named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List, picked up his first preseason All-America honor after earning a pair of national honors a season ago.
Fetter, who collected NCAA and Louisville Slugger All-America second team honors in 2008, posted a 10-2 record as a starting pitcher to help guide the Wolverines to the most wins in conference play inBig Ten history (26) and a host bid in the NCAA Regionals. He appeared in 16 games with 14 starts and led the team with 10 wins, becoming just the eighth Wolverine in program history to reach 10 or more victories in a season. His 2.47 ERA, .209 opponent batting average and 94.2 innings pitched paced the club. He also fanned a career-best 82 batters, including 34 looking.
Fetter -- a two-time All-Big Ten selection and 2008 All-Mideast Region honoree -- is one of just two conference players to garner preseason All-America honors from the NCBWA for this upcoming season. Junior catcher Josh Phegley of Indiana was a first-team honoree.
The Wolverines will begin their 2009 campaign against South Florida in the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge on Feb. 20 in St. Petersburg, Fla. U-M will also play Cincinnati and St. John's in the three-day event.
