FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Junior co-captain Bettie Wade (Northville, Mich./Farmington), senior co-captain Nicole Edwards (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Vincent Massey) and junior Geena Gall (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) of the No. 4-ranked University of Michigan women's track and field team each earned All-America honors -- Wade in the pentathlon, Edwards in the mile run and Gall in the 800-meter run -- Saturday (March 15) at the NCAA Indoor Championship at the Randal Tyson Track Center. These outstanding performances, combined with junior co-captain Tiffany Ofili's (Ypsilanti, Mich./Ypsilanti) national title in the 60-meter hurdles Friday night (March 14), led Michigan to a third-place team finish with 39 points -- the highest finish in U-M history at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Wade placed second in the pentathlon (4,366 points) after she earned seventh place in the 60-meter hurdles (8.67), first place in the high jump (5-11 1/4), third in the shot put (43-3 3/4), second in the long jump (20-5) and 11th in the 800-meter run (2:26.61). Her score of 4,366 points in the event is a personal best.
Edwards, the anchor of Friday night's (March 14) second-place distance medley relay (DMR) squad, finished second in the mile run with a time of 4:35.74 -- a little more than two seconds off of her personal best of 4:33.23. This is her third consecutive indoor All-America honor in the mile.
Gall, who also was part of U-M's All-American DMR team, placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:05.79, earning her second All-America honor of the championships.
The Maize and Blue will have a two-week hiatus before heading to Tallahassee, Fla. to compete in the Florida State Relays Thursday-Saturday, March 27-29 at the Mike Long Track.
