Captain's Log with Lindsey Howard
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 21 -- Giving Back
This past weekend was a great weekend for the Michigan women's tennis team. We started the weekend off with the entire team visiting Mott Childrens Hospital on Thursday night. This was a positive team building activity and something that was new to our only freshman, Michelle Sulahian. We talked with many patients and their families and gave them all autographed hats. We enjoyed the experience so much that we made it a team goal to visit Mott every Thursday night that we are in town. Michigan athletes are given so much, so visiting Mott is our way of giving back to the Ann Arbor community.
This past weekend we also hosted the Michigan Invitational, where we competed against Duke, Tennessee and Vanderbilt, all of which are ranked in the top 25. Going into the weekend, we really wanted to focus on our energy and on competing hard. All tournament long we had great energy and put it all out there for Michigan, but I think the highlight of the weekend was our doubles play. Winning the doubles point is so important in a college tennis match, so this past weekend gave us the confidence we need going into the dual-match season. This upcoming weekend we play our first dual matches against Marquette and South Carolina. This is my final season here at Michigan, so I'm really looking forward to having a successful season and to achieving our team goals.
