COLUMBUS, Ga. -- For the second straight day, rain and soggy conditions have affected the University of Michigan softball team's schedule at the NFCA Leadoff Classic and will have the Wolverines playing a modified schedule on Saturday (Feb. 28) at the South Commons Stadium and Complex.
All games originally scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled and will not be made up. With several teams leaving town to return home, including all three of Michigan's remaining scheduled opponents, tournament organizers have released a reorganized schedule for the 11 teams still in Columbus. Michigan will play Houston at 8:30 p.m. Saturday on South Commons Field #5.
Tournament organizers have not yet addressed tomorrow's modified schedule.
The Wolverines (13-4) opened the tournament with a decisive 6-0 victory over Virginia Tech yesterday afternoon before a steady rain picked up just moments after the final out. Rain is no stranger to the Leadoff Classic; U-M has been forced to cancel games at the annual tournament in three of its last five appearances.
UPDATE: U-M will no longer play Mississippi State on Sunday (March 1) but is now scheduled to play Hofstra at 1:20 p.m.
