ATLANTA, Ga. -- The second day of competition for the University of Michigan women's track and field team at the Yellow Jacket Invitational was cancelled due to inclement weather. With the cancellation of Saturday's (March 28) second day of competition, Friday evening's (March 27) hammer throw was the only event contested in the meet.
Three Wolverines earned top 12 finishes in the hammer throw. Sophomore Emily Pendleton(Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) was the highest-finishing Wolverine, taking eighth with a top mark of 50.09m (164-4). Just behind Pendleton, senior/junior Melissa Gurchinoff ( Dollar Bay, Mich./Houghton);earned ninth, recording a top throw of 48.83m (160-2). Sophomore Allison Liske(Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East);also achieved a top-12 finish by registering a toss of 46.75m (153-4) to place 12th. Kentucky's Kristin Smith earned top honors with her 60.71m (199-2) effort.
The Wolverines will travel to Durham, N.C., next Friday and Saturday (April 3-4) to compete in the Duke Asics Track and Field Invitational at Wallace Wade Stadium. The meet will begin on Friday at noon and resume Saturday at 9 a.m.
