LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan novice rowing team raced a fall scrimmage with Michigan State on Saturday (Oct. 30) at Grand River Park in Lansing.
The Wolverines raced 5x4 with a 25 strokes per minute rating, with two flights as both Michigan and Michigan State boated four even eights. Pieces two and four were in a headwind and the Wolverines performed well in the headwind.
Michigan's top novice boat had great races in pieces two and four winning bow to stern against the Michigan State boats, while the Michigan B boat had its best race of the afternoon in the final piece of the day, nearly defeating Michigan State's top boat.
The best race of the day was in the fifth piece in the first heat. Each of the crews finished within three seats of each other and there was very little separation between the crews.
The Wolverines will race next on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they host the Belleville Classic on Belleville Lake, to conclude the fall racing season.
