Wolverines Close Fall Season with Belleville Classic

BELLEVILLE, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's rowing team closed out the 2010 fall season with the annual Belleville Classic on Friday (Nov. 12) featuring a scrimmage with the Michigan men's club team on Belleville Lake.
"It was great to end the fall season with a competitive race on our home course," said Michigan head coach Mark Rothstein. "The weather was beautiful and the conditions on the water were perfect. I was really impressed with our novice women's squad and thought they had a strong showing. The varsity squad competed well and it was a great note to end on before heading indoors for the winter."
The race was a 4K format and featured 15 boats racing at once. The boats were put in order with the slower boats starting first and the fastest boats starting later, which resulted in all boats crossing the finish line at nearly the same time. The Michigan women's team boated three varsity eights and four novice women's eights, while the men's team boated three varsity eights, three freshman eights and two varsity fours.
The Wolverines will head inside for the winter months and will resume their racing schedule in March when they conclude their annual spring break training trip with a scrimmage with the Miami rowing team in Tampa, Fla. Michigan opens the 2011 season with the Big Ten/ACC Dual hosted by Ohio State on April 2. The Wolverines will face Clemson and Virginia.
