FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field distance medley relay team took 10th place at the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday night (March 12) at the Randall Tyson Track Center.
The quartet of freshman Jillian Smith (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional), senior captain Shana Vinson (Detroit, Mich./Mumford), freshman Rebecca Addison (Spring Lake, Mich./Grand Haven) and junior captain Danielle Tauro (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) combined for a time of 11:19.33 for a 10th-place showing. Tennessee, the two-time defending champion, took the lead in the opening 1,200-meter leg and did not look back en route to its third consecutive title.
Meanwhile, redshirt junior Charnee Lumbus (Cleveland, Ohio/Collinwood) crossed the line in 8.43 in the 60-meter hurdles to finish 18th in preliminary action. Lumbus did not qualify for tomorrow's final, as the top finisher in each of the three heats advanced, along with the five next fastest times.
U-M will now turn its attention to the outdoor season, traveling to Tampa, Fla., next weekend (March 19-20) to participate in the Bulls Invitational at South Florida.

Michigan Associate Head Coach Mike McGuire
On the relay ... "Jill (Smith) ran 3:26 again (in the 1,200-meter leg), which is what she has been at for awhile. That was a solid start for us. We were a little off in the quarter leg with Shana (Vinson). Becca followed with a good leg in the half-mile. Danielle (Tauro) just was not where she was at when we qualified last week. Our goal was to score, and we were not able to do that. We are disappointed with that, but we were able to beat some people. We came in as the No. 12 and moved up a couple of spots with our finish, so that was good. We will regroup and get ready for the outdoor season. This is a great group of athletes and we still have another full season ahead of us."

The Wolverines are now done with the indoor season.
It is the first time since 2002 that U-M did not score points at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The DMR's season-best performance came at the Alex Wilson Invitational (March 5) when the foursome ran the 4,000-meter race in 11:11:19.
Charnee Lumbus' season-best and personal-record performance also came at the Alex Wilson Invitational (March 6) when she ran a time of 8.26.
The distance medley relay is a 4,000-meter race, consisting of a 1,200-meter leg, a 400-meter leg, an 800-meter leg and a 1,600-meter leg in that order.
