SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The University of Michigan women's soccer team held an 11-5 shot advantage but suffered its first defeat of 2010, falling to No. 22-ranked San Diego, 2-0, in the final game of the USD Tournament on Sunday night (Aug. 29) at San Diego's Torero Stadium. Junior/sophomore Haley Kopmeyer (Troy, Mich./Lahser) made two saves in the effort.
Senior Jackie Carron (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) and freshmen Shelina Zadorsky (London, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) and Meghan Toohey (Philadelphia, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) applied heavy pressure all game, putting two shots on net each.
The Wolverines, who put five shots on goal during the opening half, found themselves chasing their ranked foe after a USD goal in the 16th minute. San Diego took its 2-0 lead on a shot from 25 yards out at 63:20.
Michigan takes its game closer to home, challenging Oakland on Friday (Sept. 3) in Rochester Hills, Mich. at 5:30 p.m.
