ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball team announced its schedule for the 2012 season on Tuesday (Oct. 11). The Wolverines will play in six non-conference tournaments to begin the season and have 14 scheduled games at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.
The Wolverines will take on 16 teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2011, including Women's College World Series champion Arizona State. U-M will kick off the 2012 campaign at the LSU Classic, to be held Feb. 10-12, taking on Louisiana Tech in the first game of the season. The Wolverines will also play in the Florida Atlantic Kickoff Classic and the NFCA Leadoff Classic in February, and the ESPN Tournament, the Red and Black Tournament and the Judi Garman Classic in March.
Michigan, the four-time defending Big Ten champion, kicks off its 14-game home slate by hosting Big Ten foe Penn State in a doubleheader on March 24, followed by a single game on March 25. The Wolverines will also host Big Ten series against Illinois and Purdue while playing two against Michigan State at home and one contest in East Lansing. Michigan will face eight Big Ten opponents this season, playing a three-game series with each. U-M will play three non-conference games at home to complete its 2012 home schedule.
Season ticket information for the 2012 season will be finalized in January.
