
Throwers Finish Competition at Akron Invitational

AKRON, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team sent its throwing contingent to the Akron Invitational and completed action at the two-day meet on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 12) at Stiles Fieldhouse. U-M had five total participants at the event, with two competing unattached.
Sophomore Erin Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) took sixth in the gold division discus with a throw of 49.64 meters (162-10) on Friday night (Feb. 12) before adding a ninth-place finish in the gold division of the weight throw on Saturday on an attempt of 17.79 meters (58-04.50).
Redshirt freshman Kari Prena (W. Bloomfield Twp., Mich./Walled Lake Central) added a top-10 finish for the Maize and Blue with a third-place showing in the discus blue division, throwing 43.02 meters (141-02) in her first competition in two weeks.
Competing unattached for the Wolverines, senior Emily Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio/Woodmore) placed third in the gold division of the discus, recording a throw of 51.56 meters (169-02) as the only U-M thrower further than 50 meters.
The Wolverines have their final tune-up before the Big Ten Indoor Championships next Saturday (Feb. 19), returning home to host the Silverston Invitational at the U-M Indoor Track Building. Field events are slated for a 9 a.m. start.
