Feb. 18, 2011
Series Notes
U-M is 66-26-10 all-time against WMU, including a 39-11-2 mark at Yost Ice Arena.
Michigan extended its overall winning streak over WMU to six games.
In nine career games, Carl Hagelin has six goals and seven assists against the Broncos. He had one assist tonight.
Team Notes
The Wolverines have won 10 consecutive games at Yost Ice Arena, equaling their 10-game streak in 2004-05. Their last 11-game win streak at Yost came in 2003-04. Including "The Big Chill at the Big House," U-M has won 11 straight in Ann Arbor and has an overall record of 13-2-1 in 2010-11. On average, U-M scores 3.75 goals and allows 2.0 goals.
Tonight's win clinches a top-three finish in the CCHA standings. U-M will have a bye through the first round of the CCHA Tournament (March 4-6) and host a home series in the CCHA quarterfinals from March 11-13.
With the win tonight, the Wolverines have won at least 20 games for the 24th straight season.
The two goals by Greg Pateryn and Chris Brown were scored 15 seconds apart, matching the fastest back-to-back goals by U-M this season. Pateryn tallied at 3:27 and Brown followed at 3:42. It is the fourth time this year Michigan has scored twice in less than a minute.
Streaks and Peaks
Chris Brown has registered a three-game goal streak, the longest of his career. Two of the goals during the streak have been game-winning markers, including tonight's tally.
With an assist tonight, Carl Hagelin has tallied four assists in his current three-game point streak. He has registered at least one point in 12 of the last 15 games.
Individual Notes
Greg Pateryn became the first U-M defenseman to register four points (1-3-4) in a game since Jack Johnson, who did it on back-to-back nights (Jan. 26-27, 2007) against Ferris State. Johnson had 3-1-4 on Jan. 26 and 2-2-4 on Jan. 27.
With four points tonight, Pateryn has now tallied 14 points (3-11-14), more than the totals from his freshman and sophomore seasons combined (1-10-11).
Kevin Lynch scored twice tonight, ending an 18-game goalless and pointless streak dating back to Nov. 20 against Lake Superior State, the night of his last two-goal game. His eight goals for the season are a career high.
Scooter Vaughan notched his fourth multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist.
With an empty-net goal tonight, Luke Glendening ended an 11-game goal drought, dating back to the GLI final against Colorado College on Dec. 30, 2010.
With 31 saves Shawn Hunwick has won eight straight decisions at Yost Ice Arena. He is 5-1-2 this season when tallying 30 or more saves.
Defense partners Greg Pateryn and Mac Bennett each earned +3 plus/minus ratings.
