
Anderson, Robertson, Mantel to Represent Team USA Overseas

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -- University of Michigan water polo alumna Leah Robertson (2007-10) was picked to represent Team USA, led by U-M head coach Matt Anderson, at the 2011 World University Games, USA Water Polo announced on Thursday (July 7). The Games are slated for Aug. 11-23 in Shenzhen, China.
Alison Mantel (2008-11) was chosen as the first alternate for Team USA, USA Water Polo released on Friday (July 8). Should any of the initial 13 players picked for the team be unable to compete she would step in for the duration of the tournament.
The World University Games roster is limited to collegiate athletes that are within a year of their last collegiate competition. The 13 players that comprise the American team are considered members of USA Water Polo's Senior 'B' Team.
A three-time American Water Polo Association Coaches Association All-American (2008, '09, '10) and U-M's captain in 2010, Robertson ranks among the top five in school annals for goals (159-4th), assists (121-4th), points (280-5th), drawn ejections (187-2nd) and steals (364-1st). Robertson competed for the U.S. Women's Senior National "B" Team for the Born In '88 Championships in 2008. She also participated in the 2006, '08 and '09 USA Speedo Top 40 Tournament. Her first international competition was in 2005 when she was on the U.S. Junior National Team.
Mantel finished her career this spring by earning her second consecutive AWPCA All-America honorable mention. She was also the 2011 Collegiate Water Polo Association Women's Varsity Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Mantel is the Michigan record holder for careers assists (157). She is also in the top three in program history for points (367-2nd), goals (210-3rd) and steals (190-3rd).
Anderson was named head coach of the USA Senior National 'B' Team on July 28, 2010.
