Wolverines Take Top Spot in Pairs, Fours at Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan rowing team continued its exhibition schedule on Sunday (Oct. 6) on the Scioto River against Ohio State, racing in pairs and fours. The Wolverines and Buckeyes competed in two 4.5 kilometer pieces, with each team entering six boats in the pairs. Michigan had five boats in the fours, while Ohio State had three. Racing was head style (time trials) and boats were sent off individually.
Michigan's top pair boat with senior Jessica Eiffert and sophomore Sam Heron had the best combined time, finishing the first piece with the top time (18:13) and following that up with the second best second piece (17:22) for an overall time of 35:35.
In the fours, the Wolverines had the top two combined finishing times. Michigan's top four boat (Abby Vare, Emma Burke, Hannah Moscati, Rae Oleshansky and Nadia Roohparvar (coxswain)) finished with a combined time of 36:11 (18:12, 17:59). Placing second was U-M's four with Arielle Sanders, Allison Boss, Haley Zapolski, Halli Travers and Hannah Sherman (coxswain), which clocked in at 36:30 (18:21, 17:59).
"Today was a good day for us," said head coach Mark Rothstein. "We learned a lot and had some good results. At the same time there is a lot of development that has to take place."
U-M will continue fall racing on Sunday, Oct. 19, as its first varsity eight will compete in the 50th Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, Mass.
