Hello everyone,
First, I want to thank everyone who has been supporting Michigan water polo! Our team was able to make our fall debut at the Collegiate Cup this past weekend in Irvine, California, playing in front of a large maize and blue crowd. It always amazes me to see the support we have from our families and friends at each tournament we play at.
The Irvine tournament marks the end of our full-time fall training. This past weekend Michigan water polo made a statement, ending with a record of 2-2; falling to USC and Irvine while defeating Hawaii and ASU. Each game was a constant battle for the "W." Our coaches played around with different units to play to the strengths of each player. This past weekend we were able to discover several different playing units that work well together. These units exposed our freshmen to the high level of collegiate play and they stepped up.
Our fall semester of training made a huge impact on what we accomplished during our Irvine trip. We utilized what we learned in the fall to be successful at this tournament. Since September, our team has been on the daily grind to execute technical and tactical efforts. Each teammate has been working hard. This was shown while we were playing our four games. Our training allowed us to adapt to different teams, prepared us to break down offenses and gave us opportunities to make crucial defensive stops all throughout the tournament.
Additionally, this trip allowed the team to have extra motivation moving forward into the season. With the holiday season coming up and finals, our team will be tapering in the pool to succeed in our classroom. However, this tournament has left a taste in our mouths -- leaving us wanting more. Therefore, I know our team will continue to work hard and stay in shape because we are excited to prove our play in season. From our success this weekend, Team 16 will continue to drive our efforts because we are excited for the season to come.
Hail,
