Michigan fell to 77-34-12 in the all-time series against Ohio State and has a 36-17-5 road record -against the Buckeyes. U-M saw its 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) against the Buckeyes come to an end, with their last loss against Ohio State coming on Nov. 19, 2011.
U-M had won seven straight road contests against Ohio State and six straight at Value City Arena before tonight's contest. The last time Michigan lost at Value City Arena was a 3-2 (OT) defeat on Dec. 3, 2010.
Michigan was a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill, marking the fifth time in the last six games that the Wolverines have not allowed a power-play goal. Michigan's penalty kill is now 73-for-90 (81.1%) on the season.
Zach Hyman had a goal and an assist to record his team-leading 12th multiple point game of the season and leads the Big Ten with 39 points (17G, 22A). His current scoring pace (1.44 points/game) is close to Kevin Porter's (1.47 points/game) during his Hobey Baker Award winning campaign in 2007-08. Hyman entered this season with 35 points (13G, 22A) in his first three seasons combined.
Dylan Larkin notched his 11th multiple point game of the season (G, A) and leads all Big Ten freshmen with 34 points (11G, 23A) on the season. Larkin is is No. 2 in the nation in freshman scoring. Larkin's points-per-game average (1.36 points/game) is No. 2 in the last 60 years among Michigan freshmen, behind only Bruno Baseotto (2.0 points/game in 1979-80).
Tyler Motte notched his eighth goal of the season to improve his career-best point total to 25 (eight goals, 17 assists) moving him behind only Larkin and Hyman on the team scoring list.
Michigan outshot the Buckeyes 39-32 on the night and is now No. 4 in the nation with 34.37 shots per game. U-M has outshot teams in 19 of 27 games, with a 12-7-0 record in those contests.
