ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomore RHP Megan Betsa of the No. 4-ranked University of Michigan softball team was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week in recognition of her performance in the Wolverines' weekend series against rival Ohio State, the league office announced on Monday (March 23). It is Betsa's second Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award and third weekly honor of her career.
Betsa was dominant from the circle, striking out 23 batters through 12 innings pitched against the Buckeyes (March 20-22), allowing just seven hits and two walks with a 0.58 earned-run average. She matched her career best with 14 strikeouts in the series opener and added nine in the weekend finale, earning her second complete-game shutout of the season.
A native of McDonough, Georgia, Betsa previously garnered the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week award after posting a 0.60 ERA, 17 strikeouts and just one run allowed through 11.2 innings pitched at the Unconquered Invitational (Feb. 13-15), where she helped propel U-M to a pair of wins over then-No. 6 Florida State. Michigan has earned seven Big Ten weekly accolades this season.
The Wolverines will return to competition on Wednesday (March 25), hosting in-state foe Western Michigan at 4 p.m. at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field. The midweek slate was postponed one day from its originally scheduled date.
