SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan water polo team extended its win streak to five straight games with a 20-2 decision at Notre Dame College on Wednesday evening (March 25) at the Falcons' Mellen Pool. With the victory, U-M improved to 2-0 in CWPA Western Division play.
Ten different Wolverines netted goals, most notably junior Presley Pender, freshman Christina O'Beck, freshman Laura Jimenez and junior Kelly Martin, who all registered hat tricks. It was the first collegiate hat trick for both U-M rookies. Jimenez also tallied a career-best four assists.
Junior Julia Campbell and sophomore Emily Browning split time in the Wolverine cage, combining for seven saves while holding NDC two just a pair of goals -- one apiece in the first and fourth quarters. Campbell earned five stops in the first half.
Michigan jumped out to a sizable 10-1 lead after the first quarter, earning three early goals from Pender, who quickly secured her second hat trick of the season, and added seven more tallies in the second frame. O'Beck scored her three goals in the first half -- the first of collegiate career -- while Jimenez more than doubled her previous season total with her three markers.
The Wolverines will continue CWPA play Saturday, April 4, hosting Indiana for a noon slate at Canham Natatorium -- their only home contest of the 2015 season. U-M will honor its two seniors, Danielle Robinson and Elizabeth Williams, prior to the game. Admission is free.

Michigan Head Coach Marcelo Leonardi
On younger Wolverine players earning playing experience ... "Today provided an opportunity for our second and our third units to get more repetition than they normally would be able to get as a result of our practices and the games in our schedule. These are players that are competing to travel every tournament. It not only gives them an opportunity to travel but experience play in games."
On improving to 2-0 in conference play ... "In order for us to win Easterns, we have to position ourselves well during the regular season to be seeded appropriately for the conference championship."
