STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The University of Michigan baseball team fell to Penn State, 11-1, in the start of a three-game series Friday afternoon (April 10) at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Penn State got on the board in the second with a two-run single from Ryky Smith. The Nittany Lions scored two more in the third after an Aaron Novak double and U-M throwing error. Penn State scored another unearned run in the fourth on Nick Graham's double followed by a passed ball and a Tyler Skerpon sacrifice fly.

The Nittany Lions scored four times in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run Skerpon single. Penn State then made it 11-0 in the eighth with an RBI double from Ryan Richter and a Graham sacrifice fly.

Michigan avoided the shutout in the ninth as junior Cody Bruder was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He went to second on a groundout, moved to third on defensive indifference and scored on a passed ball.

Bruder had two of Michigan's seven hits on the night. The loss on the mound went to junior Jacob Cronenworth, who allowed five hits and three earned runs in 2.2 innings of work.

The Wolverines and Nittany Lions continue the three-game set Saturday afternoon (April 11) at 2 p.m.
